Waterfront Cottages Dee Lake

This wilderness resort is surrounded by crown land nestled in the Okanagan mountains east of Lake Country! The waterfront cottages go up for sale every now. Owning shares in Dee Lake allows you exclusive use of one of the waterfront cottages and a 6000 square foot parcel around it. It is rare to find a property like this! First, the resort is only 45 minutes from Lake Country, it is so close to town! Secondly, it’s rare to find a resort that provides the number of services that Dee Lake offers – read more below!

The Lease

The 19.95 hectares or 49.29 acres are leased from the provincial government until 2040, this lease was renewed in 2010. When you purchase shares in Dee Lake it means you have exclusive use to your waterfront cottage. You sign a sublease which allows grants you use of about a 6000 square foot parcel. A condition of the sublease is that you rent out your cottage to the public for at least two weeks of the open season May 15 – Oct 15. All offers received on properties for sale will need to have the condition “Subject to Dee Lake Director’s approval”, this can take up to 14 days.

Dee Lake Resort

The Resort is a waterfront community on a chain of four lakes: Dee Lake, Deer Lake, Island Lake, and Crooked Lake. Dee Lake earns income by renting out their campsites, heritage cabins, luxury cabins, and the cottages which have individual exclusive use by the share owners. They also have a small general store with supplies and a boat/kayak rental service. The open season is May 15th to October 15th and the cottages are not intended for year-round living per the lease. The caretaker, Dave, is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet, and he is up at the resort all year to maintain the property.

Directions

You can access Dee Lake Resort from Lavington or from Lake Country. They plough the road from Lake country in the off-season, so that is your best access from October-April. The cottages are located on the east side of the property and the rentals are on the west side of the property. Drive past the gate and take a left at the office to make your way towards the cottages.

Pets

Yes, you can bring up your furry friends! Pets must be kept on leash. They also cannot be left unattended for long periods of time in the cottages!

Short-term Rentals

You can rent out your cottage privately to the public instead of using the resort’s rental pool. The resort will manage your rental if you like, but the charge is 40% of the income. The sellers of cottage #27 preferred to rent it out on their own. Short-term rentals should be allowed (keeping in mind the new provincial rules) because Dee Lake Resort is farther than 15km from any municipality of 10k in population.

Inside your cottage you have water for washing dishes, taking showers, and plumbing. This water is fed from a lake intake and chlorinated but is not potable. The electricity connection is run on a system of generators to each cottage. Refrigerators are okay because they run on a low amperage, but a blow dryer or curling iron for example could draw too much power and overload the system. Cell service is limited, but you can use wifi through starlink to make calls and connect to the internet. Cottage #27 has a super-efficient blaze-king wood stove to keep the place cozy. There is no air conditioning in cottage #27- the sellers testify they never needed it. There was a brand new on-demand hot water heater installed in 2023. The cottages are on septic which the resort manages as part of the quarterly fees paid.
